PLANTA celebrates Tree Day

Around 20 children aged 11 and 12 from La Noguera school in Balaguer visited La Plana del Corb gravel pit to help with planting trees in one of the exploited areas currently being restored. The visit was part of the celebration of the 12th Tree, Aggregate and Biodiversity Day organised by the Association of Aggregate Manufacturers (ANEFA).

Students were able to discover the geological properties of aggregates, such as its formation and origin, and they learnt about the importance of restoring exploited land to preserve landscapes and biodiversity. Aside from helping to plant trees, they discovered the different bird species in Balaguer’s Special Bird Protection Area (ZEPA) and visited the bird-rearing tower and bank built near the gravel pit to attract native species, some of which are protected.
